Avant-garde entertainer Norwood understands that music is about more than expression. It is, and always has been, at the forefront of societal progression. Through his vibrant and infectious electronic dance music, Norwood has become the heartbeat of a cultural revolution. A revolution embracing diversity and inspiring acceptance across the world. "There’s nothing I love more than looking out into a crowd and seeing faces of every color, nationality, and gender smiling back at me. I try to make the world a more equal, inclusive place in my art and in my day-to-day life, so whenever I see that ideal mirrored in an audience, it’s always a special moment for me."
These underlying themes of love, acceptance, and empowerment are a constant throughout Norwood’s vast collection of catchy and upbeat titles. They are the driving force behind his massive success and the reason he is welcomed in venues and at festivals all over the world. His favorite performance to date was representing the USA during the televised World Pride Madrid’s Closing Ceremonies in front of an in-person crowd of a staggering three million people. “My goal during every performance is for people to escape for a few hours, dance like no one is watching, and feel empowered to love themselves exactly as they are and express themselves freely!” And his growing fan base proves he succeeds each time, leaving his audience mesmerized.
Once an outcast like many of his fans, Norwood had to work hard to become such a positive life force. Growing up in a strict southern evangelical household in the suburbs of Atlanta where homeschooling and church sheltered him from the outside world, Norwood learned to embrace music as a survival tool while he was learning to embrace himself. “I faced rejection growing up because of my sexuality, but that rejection fueled my desire to help others feel accepted and loved exactly as they are.” With a deep understanding that many people around the world are suffocating for a variety of reasons, he hopes music lovers connect with his story to overcome their own difficulties and discover the power of self-love.
Norwood embraces meditation, yoga, and dance to maintain a healthy lifestyle and is a staunch advocate for mental health awareness. A natural-born social advocate, Norwood focuses on causes where he can make a difference in a community that has embraced him just as wholeheartedly. He is a huge supporter of Lost-N-Found Youth, an organization dedicated to getting the 1200+ LGBTQ+ homeless youth off the streets of Atlanta, and the Trevor Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to crisis intervention and suicide prevention among LGBTQ+ youth. “I live by two mottos in life: kindness begins with me and be the change you wish to see in the world.”
That authentic sentiment illustrates the empathy in the person as well as the purpose behind his music and reveals why fans are flocking to his shows. “Music is incredibly healing and unifying.” By exploring love, sexuality, and positivity, his music has become just that, a chance for crowds of all nationalities, all genders, and all walks of life to dance together and join the revolution.
